Revealed: Kim Kardashian’s Vampire Facial PRP Secrets

March 2013 – Kim Kardashian uploads several gruesome looking pics of her blood smeared face to a popular social networking site without comment…

Immediately celeb’ focused media channels across the globe erupt with chatter and rumour: Has Kim Kardashian been hospitalised? Or has she landed a role in a zombie horror flick?

Neither. It turns out she’s just joined the growing list of celebrities now relying on PRP therapy to maintain and restore their youthful looks.

PRP is short for Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. Still new to aesthetic medicine, the so called, Vampire Facial is a recent application of a trusted technique long relied on in mainstream regenerative medicine.

The Procedure Explained

PRP is a way to stimulate your body’s natural healing mechanisms to work on rejuvenating your skin.

Your medical practitioner takes a small sample of your blood. Then using a centrifuge to separate out the different components, she concentrates your platelets into a reduced volume of your plasma. This platelet rich plasma is then reinjected into areas you want to rejuvenate. There are no additives involved and because it’s your own blood the treatment is considered non-allergenic and free of the risk of disease transmission.

Traditionally, Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy has been used by Doctors with great success to heal nerve and tendon injuries and in aiding bone repair. Its application for skin rejuvenation was developed after it was found to be highly effective in healing burns.

A concentration of platelets in any area of the body switches on your body’s natural healing and rejuvenation resources. Once detected, the body directs hundreds of natural growth factors to set about healing tissues in the injected areas. PRP is widely considered by medical experts as one of the best ways to stimulate fibroblasts and the production of collagen.

PRP Therapy Outcomes

Its main effects are to improve skin texture, elasticity and volume. A course can provide as much as a 10-15% increase in volume. In turn, this reduces fine lines, helps restore youthful fullness and healthier looking skin overall.

Typically, you can expect to experience an immediate, but subtle effect within a few days of treatment. The full increases in volume, elasticity and ‘glow’ materialise gradually over a four to eight week period. With a course of treatment you can expect to enjoy the benefits for twelve to eighteen months. PRP Therapy can be used as a treatment in its own right, or as compliment to other anti-wrinkle and dermal filler treatments.
